Turf splits the UK into hexagonal tiles about 150 metres across. Walk into one, stay 30 seconds, and it's yours, in your colour, with your name on it. Until a rival walks in and takes it back.

Every walk counts. The dog walk, the commute, the Sunday wander: all of it claims ground, earns XP and clears the fog on your map.
Castles, museums, monuments, parks and gardens are on the map as landmarks to discover. You'll find places two streets away you never knew existed.
Real people own the tiles around you. See their names on the map, challenge their turf and defend yours. Rivalries stay friendly: nobody ever has to meet.
Turf only uses your location while you're exploring. Tap Start when you head out, tap the status pill to pause. Nothing is tracked while you're sitting at home with the app open.

Walk into an empty hexagon and the ring at the bottom fills up. Walking around inside it counts. When it completes, the tile turns your colour and is shielded for 24 hours.

Stand in your own tile for ten seconds on a new day and it gains a star, up to five. Strong tiles take much longer to steal. Neglect a tile and it fades, a star a week; after a month it's abandoned and anyone can take it.

Stand in someone's tile and tap Challenge. Hold it one minute per star. The owner gets a calm warning and can defend by turning up and standing there for ten seconds. Win, and it's yours. Lose one of yours, and you get a week of cheap revenge.

Every tile is a hexagon about 150 metres across. The whole UK is covered.
Stay in an empty or abandoned tile for 30 seconds to claim it.
Ten seconds in your own tile on a new day adds a star. One star fades for every week you don't visit.
Challenging an owned tile means holding it one minute per star: one to five minutes.
A freshly claimed or captured tile is shielded. No endless back-and-forth.
Lost a tile? For seven days you can take it back in half the time, for +100 XP.
Only one challenge can run on a tile, and you can start ten a day. No ambushes, no queues.
Tiles in parks and green spaces are worth three points instead of one. Walk the green bits.
Territory can be lost. XP, your level, your streak and your achievements can't. Full rules: turfxplore.com/rules.
Castles, palaces, museums, zoos, monuments, historic sites, gardens and parks across the UK are on the map. Stand in a landmark's tile for 20 seconds to discover it. Each one counts once, for your collection, and rarer places pay more XP.
A landmark's tile is worth extra territory points too, so expect company. The Today screen lists undiscovered landmarks near you and the day's quests.

You only ever see which tiles people own and the day they claimed them. Nobody's live position is shown, ever.

Walking and waiting are sped up in the videos. The timers in the game are real.
The game never asks two players to meet. Defending a tile means standing in it, not confronting anyone. Read the full safety guide and privacy policy.
Turf is free, and stays free. Turf+ adds a ✦ badge, a glowing border around your territory with five styles to pick from, your 12-week stats and a monthly Turf Wrapped card to share. It never changes how fast you claim, how strong your tiles are or how the leaderboard works.
No. Turf runs in your phone's browser at turfxplore.com and you sign in with Google. For the full-screen feel, use "Add to Home Screen" in Safari or Chrome and it behaves like an app.
The map works anywhere, but the landmarks, parks and green-space bonuses are UK data, and the leaderboards are built around UK areas. Turf is made for exploring the UK.
No. Keep the screen on while a timer runs and hold the phone at your side; it vibrates when a tile is yours. Locking the phone pauses the timer.
No. Nobody is shown a live position. Other players see the tiles you own and the day you claimed them, and even new claims stay hidden from others for twenty minutes. A home privacy zone keeps your street off the board completely.
Each of you builds your own 30 seconds. Whoever's claim lands first wins; the other player is told so straight away and keeps all the XP they earned exploring. On an owned tile only one challenge can run at a time.
Yes. Everything that affects the game is free. Turf+ is cosmetic extras, with a seven-day trial if you fancy it.
